What Chemicals are Lurking in your Supply Chain: Keeping Clean to Avoid Brand Image Attacks

Posted by Ryan Gudovitz on January 30, 2014

New Year’s resolutions often seem to revolve around weight loss, improving one’s physique, eating healthier and maybe even starting off with a good “cleansing” (I have seen this all too often in my office – folks munching on sea weed and shunning anything except pure protein for a week). So being keyed into the chemicals we ingest isn’t such a novel concept – of course we also have the city or state legislators that can help us along by restricting the size of our Diet Coke’s. But what about detox-ing the clothes you wear? Or better yet, the products you are bringing to market for your customers to buy and wear.

US-Canada Neighborly Love, Eh?

Posted by Kelsey Barker on January 27, 2014

The US and Canada exchange a lot more than just a neighborly cup of sugar. The US Department of Commerce has released a new infographic detailing the key elements of one of the world’s biggest trading relationships.

Trade in goods between the neighbors has increased threefold since 1990, likely owing much of that growth to NAFTA’s implementation in 1994 and the Canada-US FTA that preceded it. The trading relationship has also bounced back soundly from the Great Recession, actually exceeding its pre-recession peak to reach $617 billion dollars in 2012.

The “Look” of Retail at NRF Big Show 2014

Posted by Gary M. Barraco on January 20, 2014

Wrapping up my 8th Big Show in NYC last week, I reflected on the ebb and tides the show has taken and how much the industry is truly reflected in the activities of the event. The roller coaster ride for US retailers and brands is just like the weather each year at the Big Show – this year we had warm weather and drizzle compared to the year’s past where trudging to the Javits Center on thick layers of ice was the norm, and the freezing cold blasts off the Hudson just part of “the experience”. The economic downturn in 2010 meant that this (an almost every retail event in the country) was poorly attended back then. But in 2012 the show was overwhelmed by the comeback and flocks waited for hours to get into the show.

Look South for New Export Markets

Posted by Colleen Bush on January 16, 2014

The initiative will help businesses explore Latin American markets, learn about emerging opportunities, and tap into federal programs that can help companies finalize deals.

The initiative is focused on increasing trade with the 11 Latin American countries with which the U.S. has free trade agreements (FTAs) with – Chile, Colombia, Costa Rica, Dominican Republic, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, Mexico, Nicaragua, Panama, and Peru. These countries not only offer FTA benefits, but also boast a rapidly growing base of middle-class consumers and diversifying industries.

Got Visibility?

Posted by Ryan Gudovitz on January 7, 2014

by Theresa Horezga, Customer Relationship Manager

Do you have visibility, end to end, within your global supply chain and your vast networks of third party trading and business partners?

What if something goes wrong with a supplier at the worst possible time?  You have big orders for the upcoming spring season and you just got word that one of your raw material suppliers is involved in a scandal with PETA, and now they are coming after your brand with the full force of their supporters – your consumers!  It turns out that the wool your supplier uses on the cuffs of their trendiest ankle boot was shorn from inhumanely treated sheep and has been for some time now.  Who knew?  You had no idea because you can’t “see” how they harvested the wool.
