Global Trade Alert: Yemen Sanctions List Released

On November 10, 2014, the Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC) added names of specific entities subject to Executive Order 13611 to their Specially Designated Nationals (SDN) list. Signed on May 16, 2012, E.O. 13611 declares a “national emergency to deal with the unusual and extraordinary threat to the national security and foreign policy of the United States posed by the actions and policies of certain members of the Government of Yemen and other individuals and entities that threaten Yemen’s peace, security, or stability.”

The Ten Hallmarks of a Good Export Compliance Program

Last month, Leslie R. Caldwell (Assistant Attorney General for the Justice Department’s Criminal Division) spoke at the 22nd annual Ethics and Compliance Conference. She discussed a variety of topics, but focused specifically on the importance of having a comprehensive compliance program in place for every organization.

She primarily focused her discussion on the implementation of a general corporate compliance program, but the same principles can be applied to an export compliance program. While there is no one-size-fits-all approach to export compliance, the following should provide some guidelines to consider when deciding upon the appropriate program for your company.
